Essex  Face Cream of the South-West in Cup !

Essex face an intriguing home tie with Devon in the 2008/09 F.A. County Youth Cup First Round as Howard Mackler's Under 18s side plot a successful campaign following the latest draw at Soho Square.

Mackler, who enjoyed a transitional first season in charge of the County's eldest Youth Team during 2007/08, is looking forward to taking his side further in the forthcoming season, with the West Country side set to kick-off their competitive action this time around.

"We had an excellent win in Somerset in the First Round last season, but we were disappointed to go out at the next stage," reflected Mackler. "Devon is certainly an interesting draw and it's nice to play sides from different areas to our own."

The Devon tie is to be played on or before 19th October and the victors will face a home tie with Middlesex in the Second Round, to be completed on or before 16th November. Middlesex also provide the opposition for Essex in a friendly, set to be staged at White Notley Football Club on Sunday 21st September, kick-off 2:00pm. In addition, the County will travel to play Kent in a warm-up ten days earlier. That game will take place on Thursday 11th September, with kick-off at 7:30pm.
