Re-Registering Starts in June Each Year

re-registration is quick and easy

simple online system

The referee re-registration window for each season opens on 1st June. Referees are required to register with their parent County FA annually in order to be appointed to games by leagues and other competitions.
Since the launch of The FA’s Whole Game System (WGS), referees are now able to complete re-registration online, which is much simpler than in previous seasons, and it cuts down on unnecessary paperwork and administration. Referees can login with a FAN and password, then follow the instructions.

Pre-Requisites for Referee Registrations

Referees who will be officiating under 18s matches or below must have an in-date FA DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) and an FA Safeguarding Children Certificate before registering each season. Theses both last for three years from the date of issue.
On your FA Referees Course, you will have completed an FA Safeguarding Children Certificate. It is our recommendation to those who only referee in open-age football, as an example of best practice, that you retain your safeguarding qualification. This is also valid for three years from the date of issue. We strongly advise all referees to hold both an in-date FA DBS and FA Safeguarding Certificate. For those who need to renew or complete an FA DBS, please see ‘Related Documents’.

Under FA regulations, referees must register in order to referee in affiliated competitions - and leagues are forbidden from appointing unregistered referees to games under any circumstances. It costs £20 per season to register with The FA.
