BBC Essex Senior Cup Final: Big Match Preview

Colchester United and Redbridge Go Head-to-Head

Colchester United and Redbridge’s respective coaches have reinforced their desire to lift the BBC Essex Senior Cup silverware ahead of their meeting in the 2023/24 final tomorrow (Tuesday 19th March), which kicks-off at 7:45pm at Dagenham & Redbridge FC’s Chigwell Construction Stadium.

United’s Transition Coach, Dave Huzzey and Motormen Manager, George Christou, go head-to-head in the dugouts for this prestigious match, the venue for which was recently changed due to challenging weather conditions. Match arrangements can be found below, which is also where tickets can still be purchased for Tuesday’s game. Tickets are priced at £15 for adults, £8 for seniors aged 65+ and under 17/18s and £2 for under 16s.

Huzzey claims his club will take extra motivation from getting so close to lifting the trophy last season but watching the Senior Cup Final from the stands in 2023, recalling: “I actually went last year. We got knocked out in the semi-final, and it was gutting to see that final go on and us not being involved in it from our side, obviously.”

“I’m really excited about the occasion, as are the lads, and I think it could be a real good game against a tough Redbridge side. I think it's really important. The games and every round have been excellent as a learning curve, but actually for the club to go on and be in the final and hopefully win it would be excellent and of real importance.”

Meanwhile, Christou is equally as excited at the prospect of County Cup success: “It's a big honour to play in the County Cup Final, being an underdog in probably every time we've played. We've played Chelmsford, we've played Southend, we've played Concord and Maldon and we've probably been the underdog in every round.”

“We’ve been an advocate this season of going strong in every round because we want to try and win as many games and as many accolades as possible, really. We've got to make the most of it while we're there. Yes, we've got to be happy to be there and enjoy the moment, but again, make the most of it and try and win the game.”

Colchester United fans will be situated in the SD Samuels Stand (Blocks 6-8), while Redbridge supporters will be in the Jax Sun Services Stand (Blocks 1-57). All tickets and parking originally purchased for the match at the JobServe Community Stadium have been refunded back to their original payment method by Colchester United FC, and new tickets are required.

Travel and Parking: No car parking is available at the ground, but street parking in the local area is available (please take note of enforcement notices). The nearest Tube station is Dagenham East (Zone 5) on the District Line of London's Underground Network. After exiting the station, turn left and the ground is the fifth turning on the left, only about 400 metres from the station.

Senior Cup Final Matchball: The matchball for the big game will be carried out onto the pitch by eight-year-old Harry from local grassroots club, Elmden Rovers YFC. Football-mad Harry worried he would never play again, but he’s returned to the game he loves with a special vest to protect a defibrillator in his chest. He had an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) fitted in his chest in January due to a congenital heart condition. Enjoy the big match, Harry!
