Cup Celebrations

Concord Rangers are the Essex Pelly Under 18s Cup Champions!

Three goals in each half saw Concord Rangers lift the Essex Pelly Under 18s Cup

A first half brace from Harrison Day along with goals from Kevin Kwiek, Niall Attwood, Oliver Missing and Justin Price secure Concord Rangers the Essex Pelly Under 18s Cup.

Chelmsford City had the opening chance of the game in the 2nd minute, as Reddin picked the ball up inside the edge of the box on the right hand side and tested Concord ‘keeper Archie Howard, who saved down low to his right.

Concord fired back with a chance of their own just a minute later after a freekick from the left eventually fell to Knowlden on the penalty spot, but his toe poked effort went over the bar. In the 11th minute, Concord had a freekick right on the edge of the box and Polybank stepped up and curled an effort towards goal, but Chelmsford ‘keeper Sato-Smith was equal to it and saved to his left.

Just two minutes later, Concord took the lead. Some great work down the right from Nagle saw him crossing into the box for Day, who finished acrobatically into the bottom left corner. Day would score his and Concord’s second a minute later. This time he headed home a ball in the box to give Concord a quickfire 2-0 lead.

After the second goal, Chelmsford tried to play their way back into the game and had a fair bit of the ball, but they couldn’t convert their possession into any chances of real note. Six minutes before half time, Concord scored their third. Kwiek picked the ball up in the right side of the box and jinked inside before he finished well back across goal, taking us into the half time break with Concord three nil up.

The second half started slower until Concord had two chances in quick succession, both thwarted by Chelmsford ‘keeper Sato-Smith. First, in the 55th minute, a good move down the right saw the ball played into the box and Sato-Smith saved well down to his right. Two minutes later, Day found himself through on goal for his hattrick, but his shot heading towards the bottom left corner was saved well by Sato-Smith with his legs.

Shortly afterwards, Concord scored their fourth. Attwood this time ran towards goal and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the top right corner from about 25 yards out. Oliver Missing then got on the score sheet, drifting inside from the left and finishing well into the bottom right corner.

The game’s final goal came from Justin Price, who rolled the ball into the bottom right corner after some nice interplay in the box had left him free. The referee blew the whistle for full time shortly after and crowned Concord Rangers the Essex Pelly Under 18s Cup Champions!
