Giving women the opportunity to learn, play and laugh in a supportive environment. They seek to ensure that everyone feels welcome and included with an encouraging atmosphere. The sessions, led by Jackie and Simone, involve training and practice with a match played amongst the group, where the score isn’t important, but rather that everyone is enjoying the session.

Essex County FA Football Development Officer Ellie Finneran recently visited one of the sessions and spoke to some of the participants.

Michelle, who had been playing walking football for just under 3 months enjoys the sessions and has become friends with other participants. “I just love walking football, I’ve always been a football fan, and I just wanted to do some fitness, but mostly to have fun. So, the walking football I just love, I love to play, I love the drills, the coaches, the girls I have got to know have become friends”.

Julie, who started playing around 3 months ago because of an invitation from a friend, enjoys getting fit whilst having fun. “My favourite things about walking football are getting fit, and I don’t even notice because I am having so much fun”.

Another attendee, Liz, started playing walking football as she wanted to get fit and she enjoys the sessions. “It’s a really good laugh, I do feel fitter, and I thinks it’s a good way to end a Monday evening”.

At this particular session, Angela attended and this was her first time playing walking football and she enjoyed her debut. “I loved it! I didn’t think I would, I was hesitant because I don’t play football, I don’t really like football, but I really really had fun.” She also recommended everyone to try walking football, when asked her advice to someone hesitant to try it. “I’d say come along and try it because you’d be amazed at what you can achieve in one session and you’d be amazed at how much fun it is.”
