Aveley Joint Managers Carl Orriss and Calum Foley were delighted with their team’s performance yesterday as they claimed their first major cup competition win.

Our first final of the season and #GirlsFinalsDay kicked off with an evenly contested and goalless first 10 minutes. Aveley then took the lead through ‘Girl of the Match’ Ayla Izzet, who fired her first of three goals into the far corner after sprinting through on goal.

Izzet was a constant threat and saw a low effort across goal go just wide of the post in the 34th minute, which took us to half time with Aveley leading 1-0. Aveley then doubled their lead early in the second half, as Izzet scored her second of the game, a well struck effort from long range.

Dagenham & Redbridge looked to try and get back into the game with a Niamh Callaghan strike in the 62nd minute, that was well held by Jessica Deans in the Aveley goal. A couple of minutes later, Izzet completed her hat-trick and made it 3-0 from close range. Despite their best attempts, Dagenham & Redbridge couldn’t find a way back into the game and it finished 3-0 to Aveley.

Aveley Manager Carl Orriss was thrilled with his teams performance against a dangerous Dagenham & Redbridge side. “They are a threat and they’ve got some good players and unfortunately for them they didn’t take their chance just before we scored our second.”

Over 300 people attended the final at Aveley FC and Orriss was encouraged by the attendance. “That’s massive and we want to hopefully take the girls forward into Women’s football and win many more things”.
