Walthamstow to Host U’s in Essex Senior Cup Fourth Round
Pitching In Isthmian League Division One North club Walthamstow were handed a home tie against Colchester United when the draw for the Fourth Round of the BBC Essex Senior Cup was broadcast by the competition’s supporters on Friday 1st December.
‘Stow, penalty shootout winners at home to Billericay Town in Round Three, will host the Sky Bet Football League Two U’s in one of the standout fixtures of the last-16 draw. Elsewhere, Aveley, who are going very well in their first Vanarama National League South campaign, host Dagenham & Redbridge. The Daggers returned from Basildon United with a 4-1 victory.
Chelmsford City, also from the National League South, await the winners of Tuesday night’s clash at Roots Hall between Southend United and Redbridge to determine their next opponents. Holders and custodians of the silverware, Braintree Town, travel to Hashtag United, victors against Hornchurch in Round Three.
There were home draws for both of the Essex Senior League clubs remaining in the draw, who have survived since the very first round. Little Oakley are yet to concede a goal in the competition, and they’ll hope that remains the case when they welcome Brentwood Town. Divisional rivals Buckhurst Hill entertain Canvey Island, 4-1 victors against White Ensign at the last stage.
Maldon & Tiptree and Witham Town are very familiar with each other, and they now meet in the next round. Maldon won on penalties at Brightlingsea Regent last time out, while Town were 4-0 winners at Ilford. Concord Rangers have a great record in the competition in recent seasons, and they’ll host Grays Athletic, winners in a nine-goal thriller at Athletic Newham.
Assisting with the Fourth Round draw proceedings were Victoria Polley from BBC Essex and the Essex County FA’s Mark Wallis. Victoria was responsible for the home clubs, while Mark pulled out the away teams. All the sides still involved will be keen to take a step closer to this season’s prestige final, which has now been confirmed for Tuesday 19th March, with a 7:45pm kick-off at Colchester United FC's JobServe Community Stadium.
Following last season’s hugely-successful event, Colchester United FC will also be the venue for the BBC Essex Women's Cup Final on Thursday 11th April, again at 7:45pm. Both finals attracted crowds of well over 2,000 last season and featured grassroots football development activities.
