BBC Essex Women's Cup Final Preview
Tomorrow night sees the BBC Essex Women’s Cup Final between Billericay Town and Hashtag United Reserves being held at Colchester United’s JobServe Community Stadium, as part of a Celebration of Female Football.
Thursday’s final will see Billericay Town try to go one better than last season’s final and bring the trophy home, whereas Hashtag United Reserves will be looking to keep the trophy within Hashtag, after the first team’s success last season against the same opponents.
Billericay Town currently plying their trade in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division and sit in 7th place. They will be looking to secure the Reposs Women’s Cup as well as the BBC Essex Women’s Cup, as they take on Charlton in the final.
Hashtag United Reserves are sitting 8th in the FA Women’s National League Reserve South East & Central Division and will be aiming to finish the season strong and lift the BBC Essex Women’s Cup.
Billericay Town’s route to the final included a dramatic semi-final against last season’s winners Hashtag United. A 1-1 draw in normal time led to extra time, with Billericay Town scoring late to bring the score to 2-2. Penalties followed, and Billericay Town came out on top, winning 9-8 in the shootout and leading them to a second successive BBC Essex Women’s Cup Final.
Hashtag United Reserves made their way through to the final with some great wins along the way. Following successive 3-2 wins against Lawford Ladies and Hutton, their semi-final saw them up against Barking. A tight game saw them come out on top with a 1-0 win, securing their place in the final and the chance to lift the trophy.
At the final, we will also be joined by the Women’s EURO Trophy, won by our brilliant Lionesses last summer. The trophy will be in the Legends Bar from 3pm - 6:45pm, giving people the opportunity to view the trophy before the game.
