Dagenham & Redbridge will entertain Colchester United after the draw for the Third Round of the BBC Essex Senior Cup was broadcast on Thursday 20th October.
At this stage, clubs from the Football League, the National League and the Isthmian and Southern Leagues were introduced, along with the ten remaining sides who will contest Round Two ties next week. BBC Essex Sport’s Glenn Speller was responsible for drawing the home clubs, while the away teams were drawn by Essex FA Chair Andy Chaplin.
EFL League Two Colchester will make the trip to Victoria Road to face the Daggers as they seek to win the competition for the first time since 2010. For the National League outfit, their wait to hoist aloft the impressive thirty-inch tall silverware stretches back even further, to 2001, when they edged out Canvey Island on penalties.
Current holders Billericay Town have been drawn away to the winners of Tuesday’s Second Round encounter between West Essex and Ilford, whilst 2022’s beaten finalists Bowers & Pitsea begin their bid to go one better this term at home to Heybridge Swifts.
Rob Small was in charge of Bowers for that final and, having recently been appointed as manager of Concord Rangers, his first Senior Cup assignment with the three-times winners will see the Beachboys host Aveley, who have been beaten in each of their four final appearances.
Other notable ties see National League club Southend United drawn at home to Brentwood Town of the Isthmian League North Division, with National League South sides Chelmsford City and Braintree Town both beginning their competitions away, against Great Wakering Rovers and Maldon & Tiptree respectively.
Senior Cup newcomers Basildon Town will be at home to Grays Athletic if they overcome Takeley in Round Two, whilst Stanway Pegasus are also eyeing up a Third Round appearance in their inaugural outing in the competition, with the winners of their tie against Romford welcoming Waltham Abbey. All the Third Round matches are due to take place on or before 3rd December.
