Senior Cup Semi-Final Draw

BBC Essex Senior Cup Semi-Final Draw

Clarets Host Urchins, Rocks Await Opponents

Chelmsford City Director David Selby is targeting a third successive final for the Clarets after the BBC Essex Senior Cup Semi-Final Draw paired them at home to AFC Hornchurch, with East Thurrock United hosting Billericay Town or Southend United.

East Thurrock, winners by the only goal of the game at Bowers & Pitsea in the last eight, have been rewarded with a tie against Billericay or Southend, who meet on Tuesday. City emerged past Coggeshall Town by two goals to one, setting-up a clash with Hornchurch at Melbourne Stadium, who defeated Brentwood Town on penalties after a 1-1 stalemate.

The semi-finals are the last hurdle to determine who will earn a place in 2019’s prestige final at Colchester United FC, which is booked for Tuesday 9th April. Selby believes Chelmsford, who won 1-0 in 2017 against East Thurrock United but were defeated 2-1 by Billericay Town last season, have the competition high on their list of priorities. “The atmosphere at the final is excellent,” he said.

“It’s always a nice evening out for our supporters. As you can see by Rod’s [Stringer] team selections, we prioritise the competition quite highly. Of the last 13 Senior Cup games we’ve played, we’ve won twelve and lost one - that was last year’s final. I’m not sure we’ve ever been in the final three years in a row, so it would be nice to chalk that one up. If you get to the final you want to win.”

Selby was one of two special guests who helped with the draw. He selected the home teams, while BBC Essex’s Nick Alliker was on duty for the away sides. The semi-final matches are scheduled to be played on or before 9th February.
