Time to #CelebrateEssex Pitch Heroes on Twitter!

Latest ‘Groundsperson’ Category Active During January

Who cuts the grass and marks the lines so your team can enjoy a game of football at the weekend? Nominate your ‘Groundsperson’ hero on Twitter and they could win the latest category of our #CelebrateEssex awards.

Nominations are required by Wednesday 16th January via the @EssexCountyFA Twitter account, and the hunt is on for individuals, exclusively volunteers, whose dedication and expertise help to make sure local matches take place every season.

#CelebrateEssex promotes inspirational personal examples and stories, encouraging new faces to get involved and grow the grassroots community. Once nominations close, a group will be selected for a Twitter poll to identify the monthly hero, who’ll receive a prize and extra public plaudits.

January is the month of the ‘Groundsperson’ category. This individual is especially crucial for grassroots clubs as they attempt to ensure a pitch is in as pristine a condition as possible for games to be played on. Often their responsibilities extend to putting up goalposts and nets, painting the pitch lines and making sure the surface is safe to use.

#CelebrateEssex has been very popular so far, with hundreds of nominations and thousands of votes since it was launched in March 2018. February will feature the ‘Coach’ category, marking the twelfth month of the competition.

Stage One: Make Your Nomination on Twitter

If you know a Groundsperson who you think should receive some special thanks, anyone can make a nomination by tweeting (by 16th January):

“I nominate [Insert Name or Twitter Username] from [Insert Club/Team or Twitter Username] as @EssexCountyFA #CelebrateEssex Groundsperson because…”

State why your nominee should be the winner and be as descriptive as you can in 280 characters! It’s important to use the #CelebrateEssex hashtag to ensure your entry is registered.

Stage Two: Nominations Reviewed

Once the window closes, all the nominations received will be collated and a panel will decide which individuals will be progressed to the Twitter poll/vote...

Stage Three: Let Voting Commence!

A Twitter poll/vote will be available at @EssexCountyFA for seven days, featuring profiles of the nominees so voters can make an informed decision on who to vote for.

Stage Four: And Our Winner Is…

The winner of the poll will be contacted to be that month’s ‘Volunteer of the Month’, who’ll receive a prize plus promotional activities to celebrate their work.

Follow the #CelebrateEssex hashtag on Twitter to keep track of the competition! To find out more about volunteering in grassroots Essex football, browse the 'Volunteers' menu above, follow @EssexCountyFA on Twitter and search for ‘EssexFootball’ on Facebook.
