Billericay Town Lift Essex Women's Trophy
A superb solo strike from Sophie Hart proved to be the only goal of the game as Billericay Town (Development) defeated Stanway Rovers in the final of the Essex Women's Trophy.
Hart dribbled past three or four defenders on 24 minutes before lifting her finish into the top left-hand corner of the net. That was enough to see her side lift the silverware at New Lodge.
Billericay had the first opportunity of the match as Isla Callison’s angled shot was turned onto the right-hand post by Stanway goalkeeper Helena Brodie in the 5th minute. Then followed attacker Hart’s excellent goal, which ensured her team had an interval lead.
They maintained that advantage all the way through the second half. Stanway had been dealt a blow with ten minutes remaining as goalkeeper Brodie was forced off through injury. Megan Jiggins took over between the sticks, and Rovers were unable to find an equaliser.
