Find Your Active in December and Join a Grassroots Team

Benefits of Everyday Activity Highlighted by Active Essex

Why not 'Find Your Active' this month with a friend or family member? December is a very social month in the calendar, with many festivities taking place, and Active Essex are reminding people of opportunities to catch-up whilst participating in a little physical activity.

Exploring a Christmas market or walking around the neighbourhood to see the lights are fun and exhilarating ways to keep active, in a safe way, during the festive period. Meanwhile, in local grassroots football, #SquadBooster is an online portal on our website which provides details of local teams who are looking for new players to boost their numbers.

December is also a great time to reflect back on the year and celebrate those who have broken down barriers, inspired others or achieved incredible things through physical activity, and the Essex Activity Awards have done just that. Achievement Through Football have represented local grassroots football by winning the 'Strengthening Communities Award' category.

Active Essex recently launched a new and ambitious ten-year Physical Activity and Sport strategy for Essex, Southend and Thurrock, called ‘Fit for the Future’. In-line with this strategy, described as ‘the biggest behaviour change campaign Essex has ever seen’, is the new ‘Find Your Active’ physical activity campaign to amplify the messaging and outcomes of Fit for the Future.

Active Essex intend to continue to build upon the strengths in local communities, to help provide the tools to enable people to have the best and most healthy start to life and to work collectively to develop connected and accessible places and spaces. They will also enable and empower people to do things for themselves for good physical and mental wellbeing.

Find Your Active celebrates the fact that everyone can enjoy the huge benefits of moving more - it's just about finding what is right for each individual. When it comes to getting active, finding the right activity greatly increases the chances of creating a new, sustainable, healthy habit.

This could be getting out in the garden, a short walk, a social bike ride, some light stretching, a friendly game of football or a visit to the local leisure centre - the benefits of increasing daily movement will soon show, and have a really positive impact on health and wellbeing.

For more great ideas on how to safely get active together, whether that be outside or inside, visit the Active Essex website. Information on getting involved with grassroots Essex football can also be found in the menus above, by following @EssexCountyFA on Twitter and by searching for ‘EssexFootball’ on Facebook.
