GIRLS FOOTBALL

FROM BEIJING TO......    HUTTON  !

England Women manager, Hope Powell, put thoughts of next year's World Cup in China on the backburner last week when she attended a training session with Hutton Girls.

The session took place at Hannakins Farm in Billericay and Hope watched from the sidelines as Hutton's U9, U11 and U13 squads all took part in their regular weekly coaching drills.

With Christmas around the corner, the England manager came baring gifts with an FA goody bag for the all the girls and there was also time for the Hutton squads to quiz Hope on England and the 2007 World Cup.

ECFA Women's & Girls Development Officer, Emma Wake, attended the evening: "Hope is a fantastic role model for female footballers and it was great to see her at Hutton. She did try to play in goal during the U9 training session but the regular keeper wouldn't let her!

"Hutton are a Charter Standard Community Club who are actively looking to promote their profile in the local community and they're hoping to build a new facility in the future as well so they've hopefully got a lot to look forward to."

VALLEY GREEN GIRLS  !

The Three Lions club was by funded the Essex FA's Women's & Girls Development Programme and gave Year Four and Five girls from schools in the Witham area an opportunity to try out football after hours.

With the initial run of coaching sessions now finished, Valley Green have decided to keep the project running themselves with an aim to expand the female side of the Witham based club.

Valley Green's Wayne Lowry explained more about their plans for the future: "We wanted this programme to promote girls football and we're now hoping to start one or two teams next season and play in a local league.
"We've had 20 to 30 girls in regular attendance and they've all shown plenty of commitment and enthusiasm."

GIRLS COUNTY SQUAD TRIALS

Over 170 girls from around the county were at Brentwood School last week to take part in two days of trials for this season's U14 and U16 Essex School Squads.

Schools nominated a maximum of two players for each age group with all the girls playing in a series of small sided matches and Essex County FA trial coordinator, Emma Wake, was delighted with the turnout: "Last season saw 250 girls attend our trials which was fantastic but this year we made a conscious effort to encourage schools to nominate players who are ready to make that step up to playing football at county level."

Essex Schools are hoping to improve on last season's success that saw both squads make a massive impression on county football with the U16s winning a South East England title and reaching the semi finals of the national competition.

The U14s finished as runners up in their South East England tournament and Emma Wake explained the squad selection process for this year's teams: "Our scouts all came together at the end of the day to pinpoint the best 30 girls from each age group and they took part in the final games to determine who would be in contention for our South East England FA competition season."

The following players have been selected to attend a training session where the lucky 16 girls for each age group will be picked to face Sussex on November 18.

U14s: Lauren Picton (Chafford Hundred); Bethany Granger, Jade Loftman (William de Ferrers); Stephanie Atkinson (Hall Mead); Molly Tappen (New Hall); Sophie Reed, Katie Bottom (Warren); Jessica Tuppen (Gable Hall); Gemma Abela; Chantelle Hicks (Jo Richardson); Amy Nash (St. Bernard's); Amelia Southgate (Colchester County High); Emily Pratten (Westcliff); Amy Cooley (Langdon); George Lindsell (St. Peters); Kimilee Day (Marshall Park); Emma Sherwood (St. Cleres); Maddie Thomas (Chadwell Heath); Holly Griffin (Sanders Draper); Eden Marsh (Emerson Park); Lauren Jackaman (Clacton County High).

GIRLS FOOTBALL RETURNS TO HARLOW !

Following on from last season's success, girls football has returned to Saturday mornings in Harlow with Mark Hall School once again hosting the fun coaching sessions.

The project is a partnership between the Essex County FA, The Harlow Youth Action Group and Harlow Council and a new season of sessions got underway on September 16 with 28 girls taking part in a variety of different drills which included skills and mini games.

The sessions feature all female coaches and ECFA Women's & Girls Development Officer, Emma Wake, commented: "Last year's Harlow programme was a massive success and this eason looks to be just as big with all the girls showing that they want play football on a regular basis.

"With this in mind, we really want clubs from around the Harlow area to get in touch and provide exit routes for the girls so that they can carry on having fun and enjoying the game."
