Two sweet strikes from Braintree Town's Lynsey Bowman, on her County
debut, helped Essex seal a 3-0 East Anglian triumph over Bedfordshire at
Harlow Town F.C.'s new Barrows Farm home. |

Bowman's brace, added-to by Lianne Prior, saw Essex romp home after the
interval to chalk-up a first victory for boss Kim Coster. "I'm
really proud of how the girls have performed," beamed Coster after
the game. "A few problems meant they [Bedfordshire] only played
with ten players, but they were excellently organised and made it hard
for us. The way we killed them off in the second half was
fantastic."
"Lynsey took her goals really well" explained Kim. "She
only knew she was starting after Marie Barker and Michelle Davis got
caught in traffic, so to come in and play as well as she did, on her
debut, was excellent. Hopefully as a whole team we can build on this and
have a successful season."
A tight first half at Barrows Farm could easily have swayed either way,
despite Essex's numerical advantage over the visitor's. The first chance
saw Kelly Bingham stab a shot wide of the target for the visitor's after
just two minutes, but the opportunities soon fell to Essex. A swinging
Bowman centre bounced off the post and moments later an Andrea Wright
free kick from twenty yards dropped inches over the top.
The woodwork was struck by Beds' midfielder Bingham and Essex custodian
Michelle Bridgeman was also called into action to deny Lesley Seaman.
The half ended with two further chances for the hosts, Morley holding
onto another Wright free kick before Nicola Carty's header, from a
Wright corner, was scrambled off the line.
It was on 57 minutes that the hosts grabbed the lead, Bowman's angled
lob beating Morley and finding the far top corner of the net. Within two
minutes, the advantage was doubled as Essex flew out of the second half
blocks, this time a low drive from Prior beating the outstretched Morley
from fifteen yards.
Substitute Marie Barker latched onto a neat Zoe Rushen ball before
shooting into Morley's gloves, but on 75 minutes Essex added their third
to complete the victory, Bowman shooting low across Morley into the
corner.
Bedfordshire, however, refused to give-up hope and finished strongly.
Bridgeman did well to hold onto Bingham's fierce 25-yard strike before
the final action saw the Dagenham & Redbridge stopper again do well
to cling on Ali Hayes' drive.
