The STAR Partnership is supported by the
Essex FA and made up of Southend United, West Ham United
and the Genesis Housing Group and the three year scheme,
aimed at children from years one to six, has been a huge
success at primary schools throughout the Rochford area.
STAR's Pat Kielty commented: "The programme is
designed to increase young people's awareness of the
benefits of healthy eating and exercise. The sessions
don't just include fun outdoor activities but lessons
about healthy foods and diet as well."
So far, the curriculum time scheme has proved a huge hit
and the tutors, provided by West Ham United, have
successfully engaged over 2000 youngsters.
Miss Bunton, a Teacher at Wyburns Primary School, said:
"The school has thoroughly enjoyed the sessions.
The response from the pupils has been excellent and it
really fits in well with our curriculum."
Pat Kielty added: "It's great to see primary school
children enjoying the programme and becoming aware of
the benefits of a healthy lifestyle."
