MIND YOUR LANGUAGE

The Essex County FA are asking all clubs to review the behaviour of their players, staff and spectators after a local Parish Council recently announced that they may close a football facility due to bad language on and off the field of play.

The misconduct of players and spectators at a public playing field has caused upset amongst local residents with the incident even making headlines on BBC Essex.

Essex County FA Chairman, Mike Game, commented:
"I am hoping that we can eliminate this unacceptable behaviour from our game as we cannot allow the situation to deteriorate any further.
"We appreciate that some situations are the result of frustrations and there is today a culture where more tolerance is shown to abusive language.
"However, the Laws of Association Football do prohibit such language which is upsetting for many and distracts from the enjoyment that the game should give to all who take part or watch."

All clubs affiliated to the Essex County FA have been sent a letter on the subject with referees also notified of the situation.

Clubs are also reminded that they are responsible for the behaviour of both their members and spectators.
