HOT FUTURE FOR THE IRON !

Braintree Town are looking to the future after announcing plans to move from their Cressing Road ground to a brand new 6000 capacity stadium close to the town centre.

Last season saw the club narrowly miss out on promotion to the Blue Square Premier Division (formerly the Nationwide Conference) but that setback hasn't stopped chairman, Lee Harding, from believing that The Iron can follow in the footsteps of Dagenham & Redbridge and make the Football League in the not too distant future.

"There is still a lot of work ahead of us before we kick a ball at any new stadium but the exceptional progress that George Borg and the team have brought to the club over the past two seasons has dictated that it is now time to look at our long-term future," commented Harding.

The proposed new location is a twelve acre plot of land that lies within the A120 bypass and is just two miles from the town centre.

Harding's stadium plans include seating for 1000 people, two training pitches, various function facilities plus parking for over 400 cars while the existing Cressing Road site will be retained for the club's reserve, youth and women's sides.

"We realise that we will only have one opportunity to move the club to a ground ready for the Football League and we will take our time to ensure that we get it right," said Harding.

"Once the formalities have been completed, the next stage will be to draw up plans and present them to our shareholders, supporters and the public."
