The start of this season saw Billericay's
U15s side step up to the Eastern Junior Alliance having
played in the Chelmsford Youth League since U8s and the
club celebrated in style by taking on academy sides from
Feyenoord and Anderlecht.
Holland was the first port of call with the Charter
Standard Community Club facing Feyenoord U15s on a pitch
adjacent to the Rotterdam giants' impressive De Kuip
Stadium.
Rob Edkins scored twice as Billericay took a 2-1 lead
but they were denied a famous win when Feyenoord bagged
an equaliser with just five minutes left.
Billericay Town secretary, Barrie Hughes, commented:
"It was a magnificent pitch, there was some
wonderful football played and a draw was definitely a
fair result."
The next day saw the touring party move onto Belgium and
a game against Anderlecht U16s in a 5,000 seater stadium
in Brussels.
Anderlecht proved to be a much sterner test and raced
into a 3-1 half time lead before adding a fourth in the
second half.
However, Billericay fought back and two quick fire goals
got them within sight of yet another famous draw but the
Belgians managed to hold on for an exciting 4-3 victory.
"Time just ran out for the heroes of Billericay but
Anderlecht were a fantastic side," said Barrie.
"The lads arrived home with their heads held high
having acquitted themselves against two giants of
European football and there's no doubt that memories of
this trip will remain with them for a lifetime," he
added.
