Essex FA wanted to provide an update in regard to the Round Four tie scheduled between Southend United FC vs Braintree Town FC on Wednesday 25th January. Further to the statement from Southend United FC, Essex FA can confirm that we have received notification from Southend United FC that they have taken a decision to withdraw from the Essex Senior Cup competition. 

Ongoing dialogue with Southend United has been taking place to make suitable arrangements for the fixture to take place, following the second postponement last week of their BBC Essex Senior Cup Round Four tie with Braintree Town. Despite this, due to fixture congestion matters the club currently has following recent weather-related postponements, Southend United made the unfortunate decision to withdraw from this season’s competition.

Braintree Town will progress to the quarter-finals.

In accordance with competition rules, a charge will be raised against Southend United for their withdrawal from the competition.
