England Under 20s Return to Colchester

U’s to Host Another Three Lions International

Keith Downing’s England Under 20s side will return to Colchester United FC on Monday 30th March to play Germany in an international at the JobServe Community Stadium (kick-off 7:00pm), with ticket discounts for group and FA Charter Standard bookings.

The U’s last hosted an England team in 2018, when the Under 20s beat Germany 2-0 in front of a sell-out crowd. The stadium was also sold out for England Women’s 5-0 win against Kazakhstan in November 2017. Before this visit, the Young Lions will firstly travel to Bielsko-Biala to play Poland at the Stadion Miejski on Thursday 26th March.

Downing said: “We’re really pleased to be taking another England team back to Colchester. It’s a fantastic stadium and the supporters there always turn up in big numbers, which really pushes the players on. These matches will provide really good tests for us.”

“Playing away in Poland in front of a large, partisan crowd will be a valuable experience in preparing the players for senior football as it replicates what they’d face at that level. Poland always produce physical, tough teams and it will be a real examination of us both physically and technically.”

“Then, in Colchester, it’s the challenge of performing in front of a big home crowd and the pressure and expectation that brings. Germany are obviously always top opposition at any level and they continue to produce very good individuals and teams.”

“The ten days will be a proper test for the players as they look to build on this season so far and hopefully get themselves in contention for selection for the Under 21s squad.”

Tickets are on sale now, priced at £1 for children and concessions and £5 for adults. Group booking and FA Charter Standard discounts apply. Tickets can be obtained via www.colutickets.com, by calling (01206) 755161 (10:00am-3:00pm, Monday-Friday) or in person at the club’s Ticket Office (10:00am-2:00pm, Monday-Friday).
