International Football Association Board Update Laws

Changes to Laws of the Game Explained for 2020/21

A small number of amendments to the laws of the game have been confirmed by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) for the 2020/21 season, with Essex football clubs and referees at all levels making themselves aware of the latest alterations.

Revisions are made to the laws each year so they’re more appropriate to the game. This season, changes include updates to the laws on: The Field of Play; The Ball; The Players’ Equipment; Determining the Outcome of a Match; Offside; Fouls and Misconduct; The Penalty Kick.

The universality of the laws of the game means football is essentially the same in every part of the world and at every level. As well as creating a fair and safe environment in which the game is played, the laws also promote participation and enjoyment.

Further laws of the game information can be found on the IFAB website, with a presentation on the amendments available by following this link.
