Active Essex Open Nominations for 2019 Sports Awards

Recognition for Local Sports Clubs and Individuals

Active Essex are asking local sports enthusiasts to celebrate all things physical activity by nominating individuals and clubs for their 2019 Sports Awards.

The annual countywide awards, this year supported by Writtle University College, celebrate the outstanding achievements of the many clubs, groups, coaches, schools, workplaces, athletes and volunteers throughout Essex. Nominations can be made on their website by Sunday 20th October in the following categories:

Active Workplace of the Year: A company or department who encourage their employees to be more active in the workplace - generating innovative ideas and opportunities to change sedentary behaviour or promote better physical and mental wellbeing.

Changing Lives through Sport and Physical Activity: An organisation or group who can demonstrate they have made a positive impact on people’s lives through a sport or physical activity project. For example, by increasing participation, by promoting stronger and safer communities or by improving health and wellbeing.

Coach of the Year: This can be any form of coach (e.g. club coach, class instructor or deliverer). This person will have shown commitment to providing ongoing support and encouragement to those they work with - being a driving force behind the individual’s or group’s achievements over the year.

Community Club of the Year: A local club which has significantly developed and/or performed well in the last year at district, county, regional or international level.

Education Champion of the Year: A school, early years setting, college or university which gives its pupils a wide range of opportunities to participate in high-quality physical education and extra-curricular sport. They will help young people understand and embrace daily exercise as beneficial to their health and wellbeing at school and beyond the academic years.

Inclusive Communities Award: An individual/organisation which has connected with, and had an impact on, a community such as those with a disability, BAME, women and girls or other underrepresented groups, advancing their interest and participation in physical activity.

Sports Personality of the Year: An athlete who has made a significant achievement in the last year in their chosen sport or discipline. This can be at a national or international level and either individually or as part of a team. Open to all athletes - both disabled and non-disabled.

Unsung Hero: A volunteer who has made an outstanding contribution to local sport or physical activity over the years. This could be a dedicated volunteer within a sports club setting who deserves recognition for their commitment to supporting and developing the club and its members.

Young Sports Personality of the Year: An athlete who has made a significant achievement in the last year in their chosen sport or discipline. This can be at a national or international level and either individually or as part of a team. Open to all athletes - able-bodied and those with a disability. They must be aged under 18 on 1st September 2019.

Young Volunteer of the Year: A young volunteer who has made an outstanding contribution to local sport. This could be within a sports club or community setting. They are someone who deserves recognition for the commitment and support they have shown in the past year.
