Senior Cup Fourth Round Draw

BBC Essex Senior Cup Fourth Round Draw

Bees Host Billericay, Barking Travel to Daggers

Basildon United and Billericay Town meet again for another local derby after being paired together during the draw for the Fourth Round of the BBC Essex Senior Cup, which took place at the station’s Chelmsford studios on Wednesday 6th November.

The two clubs, separated by only a few miles, have already met this season when Billericay prevailed 1-0 in an FA Cup tie, and the sides will compete once more in the last 16 of the County Cup. United, from the Isthmian North, were 2-1 victors against Aveley in the last round while Town, who lifted the silverware in 2018, beat Football League club Southend United in Round Three.

Both Southend and Carabao Cup stars Colchester United were defeated at the last stage, leaving Dagenham & Redbridge as the highest-ranked club remaining, with several National League South clubs also involved. The Daggers defeated Hullbridge Sports 1-0 away to book their place and they now welcome Barking of the Isthmian South Central after they overcame Redbridge.

At the other end of the pyramid, Holland from the Eastern Counties First Division South are the lowest-ranked team left, though they still need to come through the last Third Round tie still to be played at Grays Athletic. The winners will entertain Canvey Island of the Isthmian North, who recorded a 2-0 success at Harlow Town to earn their spot.

Two special guests helped with the proceedings. BBC Essex’s Victoria Polley drew out the home clubs, while the away teams were the responsibility of Mark Wallis from the Essex County FA Cups & Competitions Department. Five other ties were generated as the competition gathers pace towards a prestige final later in the campaign.

National League South outfit Chelmsford City, winners in 2017, have featured in the last three Senior Cup finals and now Hornchurch stand in their way of getting there this season. The Urchins, near the top of the Isthmian Premier, last won the cup themselves in 2013 and they’ll travel to Melbourne Stadium for a re-run of one of the 2018/19 semi-finals.

The Fourth Round pairings featured many familiar derby matches, including Witham Town against Maldon & Tiptree. Marc Benterman’s Witham won an entertaining match in the Third Round, 6-3 at Hashtag United, though they face another difficult encounter against FA Cup heroes Maldon, who still enjoy a 100% record in the Isthmian North.

Concord Rangers lifted the Senior Cup three times between 2014 and 2016 and they play another South Essex side, Great Wakering Rovers, who are going well in the Isthmian North. Heybridge Swifts’ reward for knocking out Colchester United is an away tie at Waltham Abbey, while Bowers & Pitsea of the Isthmian Premier face Braintree Town from the National League South.

Those ties are due to take place on or before the 7th December, and full BBC Essex Senior Cup information is shared in the 'Cups & Competitions' section, by following @EssexCountyFA on Twitter and by searching for ‘EssexFootball’ on Facebook.
