The annual ‘reFspect Referee Awareness Weekend’ will take place from 13th-15th March as organisers ‘Don’t X The Line’ work with The FA, the Profession
The Awareness Weekend is an initiative particularly geared towards grassroots football, aiming to reduce the number of incidents of poor touchline behaviour in order to maintain the current number of referees and help to attract many more newcomers to the beautiful game. Can You Help With 1966 World Cup Feature? Nick Dines, a regular editorial contributor to Essex Life magazine, has called upon the people of Essex to help him commemorate England’s landmark 1966 World Cup-winning 50-year anniversary by sharing relevant information, imagery or useful contacts.

He’s keen to explore the vast number of Essex connections to the ‘Boys of ‘66’ such as Sir Alf Ramsey and Bobby Moore so he can produce a nostalgic celebratory feature. With the superstars of that era being much closer to the fans in those days, there may also be some memories and personal stories behind the headlines. Essex Club at Non-League Finals Day? Tickets to the first ever Non-League Finals Day at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 22nd May are on sale now, with child tickets available from just £1, and Essex could be celebrating that day as Bowers & Pitsea bid to reach the final of the FA Vase!

The Wembley showpiece will host both the FA Vase and Trophy Finals, with tickets priced at £25 for adults, £10 for concessions and just £1 for children aged under 16. Futsal Returns to ‘Just Play’ in Southend: Futsal is back at St Thomas More School in Westcliff-on-Sea every Thursday for players of all abilities as an FA Mars Just Play ‘Kickabout’ resumes from 8:00pm at just £3 per session.

Individuals who haven’t played in a while or have never experienced the small-sided format before are welcome to take part. Now is the perfect opportunity to join fellow ‘Just Players’ at one of Essex’s kickabouts as there’s absolutely no commitment. Some players attend once a month and others come every week. Learn How to Coach Disabled Footballers: Coaches who’d like to apply and extend existing skills and experience to meet the needs of players with a range of impairments can attend a FA Coaching Disabled Footballers on Thursday 31st March from 9:00am at Braintree College.

The six-hour course covers both theoretical and practical elements and, by the end of the workshop, each participant should also be able to establish basic communication skills, use appropriate terminology and identify safety and medical considerations, amongst other things. Bookings Open for ‘Festiball’ 2016: Organisers of mini-soccer football tournament ‘Festiball’ are promising a “bigger and better” occasion in 2016 following a sell-out event in 2015 where £1,827 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support and Great Ormond Street Hospital through team registrations.

This year’s capacity is being doubled after nearly 60% of the teams who attempted to register in 2015 had to be turned down. The tournament is open to the Under 7s to 10s age groups. Basildon Marks LGBT History Month: Basildon Council will be holding an event on Friday 26th February from 6:00-9:30pm to mark LGBT History Month, celebrating lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people and exploring the personal journey of a young Muslim lady who came out to her friends and family.

This year’s LGBT History Month theme is religion, belief and philosophy. Despite the efforts of people of faith, and some fantastic faith leaders, the two areas are often assumed to be opposed. It’s believed that there’s still a long way to go to change attitudes towards religion and the LGBT community. Coaches Learn the Soccability Basics: Coaching the fundamentals of disability football will be on the agenda at the Essex County FA’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Workshop for local coaches at Moulsham High School in Chelmsford on Wednesday 6th April from 7:00-10:00pm.

Level 1 and 2 coaches will benefit from a theoretical and practical workshop looking at which components create a “Good” learning environment, how to “Plan-Do-Review” effectively, engage and challenge players and consider ways to reflect. Girls Wanted for World Maccabiah Games: Maccabi GB are currently recruiting Jewish girls born between 1st January 1999 and 31st December 2002 who would like to represent Great Britain at the World Maccabiah Games in Israel, in early July 2017, the third largest sporting event in the world.

The Maccabiah Games is held every four years and is often called the Jewish Olympic Games. By competing, girls have the opportunity to compete against countries including USA, Canada, Israel, Germany and Sweden. The trip includes a three-day tour as well as many different events throughout the 17-day trip. Girls with at least one Jewish parent or grandparent are eligible for the team. Survey Could Make Huge Impact on Sport: A Sport England survey aims to discover how they can further engage groups who aren’t doing sport as regularly as others, such as women, disabled people, those from poorer backgrounds and older people.

Individuals who would like to help shape the future of grassroots sport can contribute views on how they can achieve the goals outlined in the Government’s new ‘Sporting Future’ strategy. Particular importance is placed on promoting sport to people from all backgrounds - be it through taking part in activity, watching live events or volunteering. Education Degree Programme Starts Soon: Students can apply for a Government-funded Post-18 Football & Education Degree Programme which is starting in September 2016 at the brand new 3G pitch at the Peter May Sports Centre in Walthamstow.

There are currently reduced tuition fees of £6,500 for the full time programme, and further details can be found at www.starbridgesports.com/academy. Hull City FC defender Curtis Davies has agreed to be their football ambassador, and he said: “This type of football and degree programme is the only one in the south-east of England. It’s a wonderful opportunity to continue to develop as a player whilst receiving a full time degree education.”

Paid Goalkeeper Coach Wanted: Michael Richardson Football Academy, based in Dunmow and Chelmsford, are looking for an open-minded and adaptable goalkeeping coach to provide position-specific sessions for a variety of goalkeepers within their Development Centre and Academy Group.

The successful candidate will work with a team of coaches who strive to develop young players in mixed ability levels. The Academy strive to develop young players in mixed ability levels. Level 1 and 2 goalkeeping qualifications and an FA Level 1 and 2 certificate with Youth Modules 1-3 are required. The coach will be paid £12-15 an hour for a three-month probation period. Free Small Grants Workshop in Clacton: A free Small Grants Workshop has been arranged for sports clubs and organisations in Tendring on Thursday 7th April 2016 from 6:30-9:00pm at Clacton Leisure Centre. Supermarket Back Soccability Team: Aldi Area Manager Stephanie Butt joined EPCP Romford recently to present them with a brand new kit, which has been supplied by the supermarket chain. Stephanie attended one of the Soccability club’s training sessions after Aldi sponsored the kit to mark the opening of their new store at Collier Row.
