Football Futures

The FA Football Futures programme aims to develop the next generation of football volunteers. The programme recruits, retains, progresses, develops and rewards volunteers regardless of their background, gender or ability.

We provide guidance, support and opportunities for people aged 14-21 who volunteer within football or would like to get involved. You could be coaching and working with teams, refereeing, running events, running and developing the game, promoting the game or working on the Respect Programme.

Football Futures works alongside the FA Secondary Schools Programme, Sports Leaders UK, the Youth Sport Trust, Sport England, schools, FA-affiliated clubs and other appropriate organisations and agencies. There is a downloadable information booklet below, which provides further details on the programme.

Further Opportunities?

Football Futures Camp

We hold an annual county Football Futures Camp which is open for any 16-19-year-olds who are currently volunteering within football. The camp brings together a large group of Young Leaders from across the county to experience a series of workshops covering a variety of football themes such as Futsal, the FA Skills Programme, and refereeing. Following the county camp, two Young Leaders - one male and one female - are selected from the attendees to represent the Essex County FA at The FA’s national Football Futures Camp.

Essex County FA Youth Council

The Youth Council was formed in 2014. We have a mixture of knowledge and experience throughout the ten members who are spread across the county. Our aim is to give a voice to, and engage with, young people who are volunteering in Essex football. Our Youth Council oversees the Football Futures programme. We also plan and deliver events such as England Football Day, the Football Futures Camp and our annual awards ceremony.
