Fourteen young people were chosen from the
school to undertake the Junior Football Organiser
Course, which took place in the last week of the
two-term 3 Lions After School Club, under the guidance
of Wayne Curtis. It was the first such scheme in the
county to be aimed specifically at children with special
educational needs.
ECFA Education & Schools Football Development
Officer Lana Bond was full of praise for both the school
and personnel involved: "It is testament to the
school that they have someone like Wayne in place that
is so determined. He is enthusiastic to provide the
opportunities for special educational needs children to
succeed."
The children were awarded certificates at the end of
their course, having put their skills in practice at the
3 Lions After School Club as part of the scheme. Over
thirty children have attended the Club, which has
presented the chance to initiate links with local
Charter Standard Clubs. All involved received a Football
Association goody bag.
Lana explained more: "We are pleased to have helped
the school gain its Charter Standard status. In turn,
the school has been exceptional in giving children an
opportunity to join in after-school projects and get
involved in football."
After the success of this at St. Christopher, tutor
Wayne Curtis aims to put on more courses for young
people at the school. Further School-Club links are also
planned as part of the FA programme, run in association
with the Physical Education and School Sport Clubs Links
(PESSCL). |
