for a question and answer session with the
children. |

| Funded by
the Football Association, the five day project is
based at Roots Hall's Extra Time @ Study Support
Centre and offers fun education activities for 30

Centre manager, Simon Bell,
was delighted with the initiative's opening day:
"We started off with a little icebreaker session so
that the children could get used to each other and then
they went straight into designing and making their own
Three Lions T-shirts before preparing questions for
Faye's visit."
The children quizzed Faye on her international career
and the England captain spent over 30 minutes answering
questions on pre-match nerves, leadership on the pitch,
winning trophies, playing at Wembley, inspiration and
meeting David Beckham.
Faye, who also plays for Arsenal Ladies and works full
time at the Emirates Stadium, was impressed with the
Learning Centre: "I think it's ca fantastic idea
and I'm sure everyone is enjoying the fun lessons.
"Some of the children here today might not take
part in regular acactivities at school so it's giving
them an opportunity to get involved, meet new friends
and, hopefully, getting them interested in football and
ecexercise as well."
Sky Sports News and Meridian all popped along for the
launch day and Faye's visit to the Centre concluded with
an England training session at Priory Park although the
28 year old had to watch from the sidelines due to a
recent knee injury.
The rest of the week sees the children making and
editing their own Brazilian style football commercial
plus Sir Trevor Brooking, Southend United boss, Steve
Tilson, and FA Three Lions mascots, Roary, Paws and Mane
will all be paying a visit to the classroom.
ECFA Education Officer, Lana Bond, is hoping that the
Learning Centre will become a regular fixture in school
holidays at Root Hall: "The pilot project has been
a great success so far and we're now turning our
attention to the long term and hoping to get a local
sponsor on board for future holiday sessions so that
more children can get involved and learn more about
Maths, English and IT through fun football related
activities."
