Waltham & District League outfit Larsen celebrated a 2-0 victory over Fusion courtesy of goals in either half from Lee Codlin and Lee Sontag.
 
In a match of contrasting weather conditions - bright sunshine beat down on the first period before making way to typically heavy April showers at Harlow Town's Barrows Farm ground - it was the quality of Larsen's line-up that shone through.

Manager Gary Killington was keen to emphasise the experience of his squad, many of whom have represented Waltham Abbey in the Ryman League Division One (North) this season: "It helps to have those sorts of players in the team," he revealed. "Our goalkeeper, John Hickman, has played in a Senior League this year, and Russell Williamson appeared for Southend United and Wimbledon earlier in his career."
 
After an even start, it took 14 minutes for Larsen to take the lead with the first clear-cut opportunity of the Final. Ansah Owusu found Sontag on the left-hand side, and he centred for Codlin, who took a touch before firing into the bottom right-hand corner of the net.
 
Troy Sargeant almost levelled immediately but, faced with just Hickman to beat after Ricky Caine's defence-splitting pass, he dithered to allow Craig Jackson the chance to effect a challenge.

Codlin enjoyed chances to add to his own personal tally, but having first robbed Jamie Jarvis he smashed a fierce shot over the crossbar before being similarly wayward from another Sontag pass. In between, Sargeant failed to find the target when he slipped an effort past Hickman from Terry Allen's swinging cross.

Indeed, Basildon-based Fusion could have been on level terms again ten minutes before half-time when Jarvis and Glenn Adams worked a free-kick routine that the latter sent dipping just inches over the bar. The more likely scenario remained that Larsen would add to their own tally, and Codlin's faint touch was not enough to divert Sontag's dangerous cross into the net.

Terry Ireton was unfortunate when Grant Hayward made a fine block at his near post with captain Jason Burches chipping the rebound over, and the custodian was in excellent form again midway through the second half when Sontag's strong attempt was fired into his legs.

The decisive goal arrived in the 69th minute and saw winger Sontag richly rewarded for his excellent display. Owusu collected the ball on the edge of the penalty area and found Ireton, whose drilled cross was converted with a rising shot past Hayward.

Owusu later saw a header nodded off of the goal-line and Hayward palmed an injury time effort from Codlin out as Larsen threatened to run riot during the final twenty minutes.

"It feels good to have won this Cup," Killington admitted. "The result could've been much better because we missed three or four sitters and, when you do that, you do think that maybe the result is in doubt. They weren't a bad side, but we have a good team and we took our goals well. We have been doing that all season, and it was pleasing to keep another clean sheet."
