CHILD PROTECTION

CRB - WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?

CRB checks are a way of checking an individual's history to make sure they do not have any convictions that might mean they are not safe to work with children.

The FA only uses checks called Enhanced Disclosures which are currently renewable after three years.

These show conviction history (offences they have been found guilty of), other information that might be considered relevant (e.g. a person may have had their children placed on a Child Protection register for sexual abuse) and whether or not they are banned by the courts from working with children.

It is important to note that the FA are only interested in offences that maybe a child protection issue. The checks are not designed to stop everyone with a criminal conviction from being involved in the game.

CRB checks are not to be confused with Police checks which many clubs have undertaken on behalf of their members.

Please be advised that any new clubs wishing to apply for FA Charter Standard will need to have their Club / Child Welfare Officer FA CRB checked before application.

FA CRB Unit hotline -  0800 085 0506

Any club that has not already gone through the FA CRB process can do it now with the help of their Child / Club Welfare Officer.

Once this individual has undergone the checks themselves, they can now apply to be a verifier for the rest of the club. This will mean that club members can be checked without having to send their important documents in the post which can sometimes be expensive and time consuming.

If your Club / Child Welfare Officer would like to find out more on how to be a verifier please contact the FA CRB Unit on 0808 800 5000 for more details.

THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION are helping to protect children and young people online by teaming up with the Virtual Global Taskforce.

The Taskforce is an alliance of law enforcement agencies and businesses working together to make the internet a safer place and the project’s chairman, Jim Gamble, commented: "The Football Association has a long standing commitment to child protection - both on and off the football pitch.

“By becoming a partner to the Virtual Global Taskforce, the Football Association have made clear their determination to ensure that young football fans are also protected on and offline as the online football community is massive and growing.
“By helping to raise awareness of the risks that children and young people can face online, and by providing the tools to manage those risks, we can empower young people and help make the Internet a safer place.”
