Can my team play friendlies over the summer?

Traditionally, and under the auspices of Football Association regulations, no eleven-a-side football is permitted to be played during the calendar month of June unless express permission has been received from The FA, including friendlies and it is imperative these rules are adhered to. This lasts for the whole of June and it's important we have a defined break between seasons as it gives everyone the chance to rest!

Where can I find a template Code of Conduct for our club?

You can get ideas for Codes of Conduct at www.thefa.com. Simply click on the ‘Respect’ banner and follow the ‘Codes of Conduct’ link on the left-hand menu. This gives a clear message as to what the club’s expectations are. You don’t have to be signed-up to the Respect Programme to have codes of conduct.

Our club has a lot of officers. Can I sort out CRB Check paperwork on their behalf?

Club Welfare Officers can verify CRB documents for their club, providing they have had their own FA CRB accepted. Guidance can be provided via The FA CRB Unit on (0845) 210 8080 or via Helen Hever on (01245) 393098 or helen.hever@essexfa.com.

Am I allowed to gain publicity for my Under 7s team’s games in the press?

It’s FA procedure that Under 7s and 8s football results should not be collated and published in any way. This is to encourage ‘playing for fun’ on a festival basis rather than adding the pressure of league positions.

Do we have to seek permission to take our team on trips or tournaments abroad?

If your club plays another club from outside of England, either home or away, there is a requirement to get clearance from The FA? You will need to initially contact the Registrations Department at Soho Square who will forward the necessary forms to you. They can be contacted via the main switch board on (0207) 745 4545.

Can a youngster receive moral support from an adult at Personal Hearings?

If a child or young person is to attend a Personal Hearing they are entitled to bring along an adult or carer to sit with them. The adult/carer is there in a supporting capacity only. It is important to remember that if the adult/carer is also going to be a witness in the hearing, they cannot sit with the young person, so an alternative adult should be available, for example the Club Welfare Officer.

N.B. Remember! Youth Clubs need to have a named Welfare Officer who has completed the Safeguarding Children Workshop in order for the club to affiliate for next season.

Dates of the current Workshops available are published in the 'Development/Courses' section or, alternatively, call Glenn Moss on (01245) 393093 or E-Mail glenn.moss@essexfa.com.
