1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football
Course Duration: 90 hours, Minimum Age: 16
Awarded in partnership with The FA, the Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football is the next progression on the coaching ladder. The qualification offers candidates a combination of practical experience and class-based theory to develop an understanding of the planning, conducting and evaluation of ethical football coaching sessions.
The practical element of this course is physically demanding and candidates should be reasonably fit. Candidates are expected to attend all sessions. There will be an additional charge for students deferring their final assessment for anything other than medical reasons.
There are no pre-requisites to join the course but students are required to hold a Safeguarding Children and Emergency Aid certificate before their final assessment.
What Will I Learn?
On completion of the course the competent coach will be able to:
- develop an appreciation of the ethical coaching process
- plan, conduct and evaluate a series of football coaching sessions
- coach the basic skills and techniques of football
- promote and establish positive working relationships at all levels
- ensure the health and safety of players and others within the coaching environment
- develop greater responsibility for their own learning and development
- promote the sport in a positive and constructive manner
- demonstrate an understanding of the principles of attack and defence through the use of practices and small-sided games
Course Breakdown
The practical sessions will cover:
Technique: A technique is a basic building block of football. For example, a technique is when a player is able to pass or run with the ball, turn, dribble, or use different surfaces to control the ball etc. The more opportunities the player has to practise these techniques the more adept they will hopefully become.
Skill: A skill is when a technique is used successfully whilst under pressure from an opposing player. For example, a player might be able to execute various turns with the ball in isolation, but can still have a successful outcome whilst under pressure.
4v4 Small-Sided Game: The theme then continues into a 4v4 small-sided game. Within the game you can utilise other players, who can be used as targets, servers or floating players.
The theory sessions will cover:
- The Learning and Coaching Process 1
- Planning, Preparing and Evaluating Coaching Sessions 1
- Football Fitness 1
- Football Food
- Health and Safety
- Overuse Injuries
- Growing Up Youngsters in Football
- Attitude and Ethics
