FA Charter Standard

Designed in 2001, the FA Charter Standard initiative was launched with the promise of improving grassroots football and aimed to make a difference in local communities around the Country. The Essex County FA amongst the national leaders, with over 150 clubs signed-up and over half the County's youth teams are currently enjoying the benefits that FA Charter Standard status brings.

Hawkwell Athletic became the Essex County FA’s 100th Charter Standard Club and Vice-Chairman, Martin Robbins, believes that the award has boosted their profile in the local community and surrounding areas, saying: “We’ve always had a reputation for being a very friendly club and our Charter Standard certificate shows parents that their children are playing in a safe environment and with qualified coaches.”

The FA Community Club scheme builds upon the foundations of the Charter Standard scheme in placing clubs at the heart of their community. Community Clubs are the pinnacle of the club development pathway and offer a high quality, multi-team set-up with excellent social, training and playing opportunities for all.

The latest addition to the Charter Standard Programme is the Charter Standard League Award which is now open to all County FA/FA-sanctioned leagues following the success of the pilot programme carried out during the 2008/09 season.

Just some of the benefits of the Charter Standard include Umbro kit and equipment vouchers, increased funding opportunities, in-service training events and reduced prices on Essex County FA coaching courses.
